Introduction
These are the Lands of well, you know, the lands. These Lands are a group of continents and islands that make up the game world. They are filled with all sorts of life just waiting to be dead. By your hand. Yeah, take out your sword and chop em' to pieces, cause those innocent monsters are well worth the experience. Did I mention they are quite willing to be looted of all their gold, not to mention Euros, US Dollars, and Lunes (which are the many currencies of The Lands)? Yes, killing monsters makes the world turn round. But what's the point of adventuring through the world, taking gold, Euros, USDs, and Lunes, and gaining experience if there is no story behind it? Read on, because I just added one.
The Legend of Holydoom
A picture of holy and doom colliding.
The forces of Doomville and Holyshire have, for millennium, been unknowingly expelling their very essence into The Lands. Until recently, Holy and Doom didn't go well together (like two magnets of the same poles don't attract). They didn't even come within miles of each other, until one day, a priest, wanting a better understanding of the afterlife, found out about the powers of Holy. He harnessed it and immediately became all knowing and extremely pure. Overjoyed, he decided to visit his friend and tell him how he too could become pure and holy. on his way, a single particle of doom lay in his path. That particle, sensing that the man was so pure, tried to put an end to his righteousness. When the holy particles touched the doom particle, they combined together to make the most powerful resource ever known to humanoid, reptilian, insectoid, and otherwise undecided. Powerful enough to start a war between angels and demons, seeing as they both wanted the resource. Once the first particles combined, all Holy and Doom particles started attracting to each other. They ended up creating large deposits of pure Holydoom, buried away in rocks. The angels and the demons fought for over a century for the substance, undetected by the inhabitants of The Lands. Then one day some Vazalon (see races) slaves, while mining, found a small deposit of it.
They tried touching it, and they spontaneously combusted (trolled). But by then the secret was out. A powerful (not to mention explosive) substance was up for grabs for anyone who could harness it. The two slave races (Vazalon and Laakylions) banded together, Laakylions as the brains and Vazalon as the brutes. The Laakylions finally found a way to harness it. They invented a suit of armor that could supposedly harness Holydoom. the vazalon were the first testers of the suit, but immediately, when the first vazalon touched it, time froze and he was contacted by Death, who spoke these words to him: "You have touched Holydoom, what is meant to be an impossible feat, and survived it. That means you have cheated Me, and you will have to spend the rest of your time in the mortal realm as a servant to me." But fortunately, as everyone knows, with great responsibility comes great power. They held sway over the power of death itself.
The same thing happened to all others in the group of Vazalon that touched it.
The Laakylions, watching from afar, witnessed the spectacle simply as everything turning black, and when time unfroze (which they didn't know had happened) all the Vazalon were cloaked in a strange aura of black 'light' that made the air around them quiver and distort. They were armored in a black cloak and what looked to be ancient, dark chainmail. The Vazalon strode...no, more like glided, over to the Laakynions. They claimed they were the legendary servants of Death itself, earning them the title of...Deathdudes. They alone could harness the power of souls, death, and of course, Holydoom. news spread quickly about the harnessing of Holydoom and thousands of creatures of all races tried to come and buy or steal it (but only because the Laakylions had not revealed the side-effect). They would turn over the power of holydoom, but only if they let the Laakylions free. The Vazalon were not happy with this and forced the Laakylions to include them, too. The other beings were outraged by this, but as of the fist demonstration (while being under a force field created out of holydoom, the laakylions and vazalon slaves blew up the two central islands of Here be Dragons from over 100 miles away), they agreed. As soon as the secret was given to them, however, they immediately betrayed the slaves. The Laakylions had been expecting this, though.
The dwarfs and humans were extremely mad, but the rest were too busy looking at the sky, because a huge land mass was falling from it. It hit the ground, destroying a good five miles of both Eporu and the Dwarflands, and closing the gap between them. Miraculously, it did not create any natural disasters, but then again, what do you expect from angels, for the land mass had descended from holyshire. At the same time, unrevealed to them an island was rising out of the water just south of Here Be Dragons. These landmasses two landmasses, falling from the sky and ascending from the sea would serve as gateways from Holyshire and Doomville in the coming war. They were, for this reason, called Holy and Doom respectively. The people of The Lands realized that to survive, they would have to work together.
As the war rages between Holyshire and Doomville, your character must decide what force they will serve,. Good or evil. it doesn't matter, for even if there are servants of good and servants of evil in one party, you must learn to use the unity of a party to your advantage. The time has come to choose. The time has come...to party!
P.S. If you’re wondering what happened to that priest...well, so am I, because due to the radiation of the nuclear blast i haven't gone looking for him yet.
